Welcome to Primary 3
Primary 3 enjoyed World of Work week. Thank you to Rachel’s Granny for coming to talk to us about being a nurse.
Primary 3 and 4 visited MFR to sing Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree. They all sang very well and will be singing on the radio on Friday 22nd December at 8.30am. Remember to tune in to hear them!
We have been reading non-fiction books in Primary 3. We have learned how to use a contents page and a glossary page. The red group read a book called Fun with Shadows and shared their learning with the class. The blue group read their book about ice sculptures to the red group. We are all learning lots of new and exciting information from our non-fiction books.
As part of our Social Studies topic on castles we visited Urquhart Castle. We all enjoyed our trip to the castle. We learned about the different parts of a castle and the people who used to live in Urquhart Castle.
We have all settled into Primary 3 and have had a very busy first term.
Today we went on an autumn walk round the school. Here are some photos from our walk.
When we got back to the classroom we wrote an autumn senses poem using lots of describing words.
Mr Thompson has come to visit our class for Kodaly music. We have really enjoyed Kodaly and are looking forward to Mr Thompson returning after the holidays.
We have been learning about castles this term. We worked in groups of threes to read all about Motte and Bailey and Stone castles. Some of the class even built their own Motte and Bailey Castle. It was fantastic!
We picked the carrots and runner beans that we planted before the summer holidays. The dinner ladies kindly cooked the vegetables for us and we got to taste them. They were very tasty!
I hope your child has settled into their new classroom. I am looking forward to teaching Primary 3 this year.
As we begin the new term it is useful to know some information about our weekly routine and the homework for Primary 3.
Reading homework will be sent home on a Monday with suggested reading pages for the week. Please sign the reading record and bring homework folders to school every day.
Spelling words will be taught in class and sent home on a Monday to learn for the weekly spelling quiz on Friday. The list of common spelling words will also be included and there will be quizzes on these words throughout the year.

Spelling and Mental Maths awards are presented to children at assembly when they achieve their targets.
There may be additional homework activities sent home over the year connected to our social studies classwork.
Gym will be on a Tuesday and Thursday, please bring a pair of shorts to school on these days.
Please ensure your child has a shoe bag in school to store their indoor shoes at the end of the day.
Thank you for your continued support and please contact the school if you have any questions regarding homework or wish to make an appointment to discuss any other matters.
